The real question any beginner should ask when considering a martial art is this. "How long will I have to train before I'm proficient enough to realistically protect myself?"
This time period can vary widely across disciplines. Some can have you practically proficient in 6 months, some take as long as 10 years.
Sadly, some are never going to be practical for self protection, because they are based on sports and not what you are likely to encounter in a real life assault.
Also, being a novice, how do you sort out the real from the fake, the practical from the just plain silly? That's what 10 Moves is here for.
10 Moves is based on hundreds of hours of research on how women are most likely to be attacked by a predator.
From Jack the Ripper to Ted Bundy, our studies identify the techniques and tactics attackers are most likely to use in an assault.
We then chose counter-attacks from many arts with the following criteria.
The 10 Moves also include Bodyguard, Military and FBI tactics.
Our mission is not to prove which art is superior. It's to provide you with the best protection you can learn in a short period of time.
Most of 10 Moves is banned in sport competitions. It is not designed to be a sport where you need rules and referees to decide who won. It is designed to allow you to quickly incapacitate attackers and predators.
What is the difference between protection and defense?
I just watched a video in which the instructor showed various escapes from chokes. All of them were sound techniques defensively, they allowed the victims to escape the hold.
However, none of them damaged the attacker at all or prevented the assailant from launching another assault.
From a protection standpoint, this strategy fails.
If an attacker is bold enough to lay hands on you, your best bet is to attack and disable whatever they give you.
Instead of reacting defensively and leaving them able to attack again, it is smarter to react protectively and use a technique which leaves them unable to repeat their attack.
In short, a defensive tactic stops an attack but leaves the attacker in a position to attack again, possibly escalating to a stronger weapon such as a knife or a gun.
A protective tactic stops their ability to attack.
What Is The Line Of Action Protocol? If we look scientifically at how human thoughts become actions, we discover a path that can easily be manipulated to stop thoughts or urges from becoming actions.
To turn any thought or compulsion, good or bad, into reality requires a few crucial body parts to work together. If any of them are damaged, the action is disrupted and the intent is unable to be carried out.
An attacker's eye's guide their feet to a target and then guide their hands and fingers while their evil deeds are done. Blinding them, or breaking their fingers or legs, shuts down the whole process.
Therefore the Line Of Action protocol dictates that our smartest effort to protect ourselves will be to quickly disable the Line Of Action. Having done so, the chances of that same attacker being a future problem are greatly diminished.
Try our introductory class, Unlocking The Warrior Pose. If you've ever done Yoga, you've done this pose without realizing that besides being one of the foundational poses in Yoga, it is also one of the foundations of many Martial Arts.
In fact, a great deal of protection lies within the Warrior Pose and all most Yogi need is someone to expand their knowledge and application of this technique.
We are in the process of setting up initial classes in various areas in Charleston SC and surrounding areas.
